Jeanne & Chuck Graham Interview

Jeanne & Chuck Graham

"The El Cortez was a great place. It was a lot of fun. I'm glad it's been saved as a city landmark."

Jeanne and Chuck Graham are science fiction enthusiasts. While in college at San Diego State University, Jeanne founded the local chapter of the Star Trek Association for Revival (S.T.A.R.) in 1972. While attending the University of California, San Diego, Chuck met Richard Butner, an early Comic-Con committee member, and joined the meetings at Ken Krueger's bookstore in Ocean Beach.

Between S.T.A.R. meetings and Comic-Con planning committee meetings in 1973 and 1974, Jeanne and Chuck formed a lifelong bond. They set up Star Trek exhibits at the 1973 and 1974 Comic-Cons. Additionally, Chuck also handled the Comic-Con publications for the Con those years.
